Ranken – KDESH joint venture wins Sri Lanka water supply deal

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s government has awarded a contract worth over Rs1.96 billion to a local and Chinese joint venture for a water and wastewater management improvement programme in the Greater Colombo area.

The JV is between K D Ebert and Sons Holdings, and China’s Ranken Railway Construction Group Co. Ltd. It is known as the Ranken-KDESH joint venture.

The Asian Development Bank and Agence Francaise de Developpement, the French development agency, are helping to fund the project.

The contract award, recommended by the Ministry of City Planning and Water Supply, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers this week.

The contract is for the construction of an underground reservoir in Gothatuwa with a capacity of 15,000 cubic metres, a pumping station and booster pump station, and supply and laying of 1,200 mm pipes.
