ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka’s Vidullanka Plc said it has completed building a 6.5MW mini hydro power plant in Uganda and would commission it next week after joint testing with the authorities.

A stock exchange filing said the Muvumbe small hydro power plant in the Kabale district of Uganda, its first in the African country, is expected to supply 31.42 GWh of electric energy to the national grid.

Muvumbe Hydro (Uganda) Limited, a subsidiary of mini hydro developer Vidullanka, entered into a power purchase agreement with state-owned Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) in 2015.

Muvumbe Hydro’s agreement is to sell the power generated for a period of 20 years from the date of the power plant’s commissioning.
