Sri Lanka to tax plastic goods

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka will charge an excise tax of 10 rupees a kilo on plastic goods and allow tax free import of machinery to produce degradable packaging, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said.
This was part of measures to have a 'green economy' he said presenting a budget for 2018.
He said incentives will be given for producers of packaging from reed and similar materials.
Samaraweera said plastic waste had become big problem in the country.
